Redirecting to a Static home page

In BHF:Layouts & Templates we use to see a number of questions on having stating home page on Blogger. Yes, it is possible with the new feature of blogger called Search Preferences.

If you're looking for redirecting from one blog to another, please read blog redirection in two ways.

So how do I?
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Search Preferences > Errors and Redirects > Click Edit on Custom redirects.
  3. In From, just type "/"
  4. In To type the link to which you want to redirect.
  5. For example, If I need to redirect my blog's home page - http://howtoblog.krishnainfotron.com to http://howtoblog.krishnainfotron.com/index.htm, then in the To text box, I would just type /index.htm
  6. Click Save > Save Changes
  7. You could see I have redirected my http://howtoblog.krishnainfotron.com/index.htm to http://howtoblog.krishnainfotron.com/p/comments.html for example.
  8. Happy Blogging!

  1. I tried to follow your instructions to redirect http://debhalasz.blogspot.com to http://debhalasz.blogspot.com/p/home.html
I have the new UI, and I had no difficulty finding the search preferences.
However, when I click save, the box around the redirect links turns red. It's not saving, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I've typed "/" in the first box and "/portfolio.html" in the second box.
I also tried typing "/" in the first box
and "/home.html" in the second box because I wasn't sure which way to handle the redirect.

    Can you help?
    Thank you!
I want what's currently at http://debhalasz.blogspot.com to be moved to http://debhalasz.blogspot.com/p/portfolio.html

Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    1. Let me explain you how to do. In the first box give / In the second box give /p/home.html and save it. You have no page called portfolio.html You have to do some changes in your template.
      1)Go to Dashboard=>Design=>Click Edit on Pages=>Remove.
2)Now Click add gadget that appears on in the place of the Pages gadget.
      3) Choose HTML/Java Script and add the following code in it. Click on the link here
      4) Save. You are done.

    1. You can't do that. We can't redirect to diff. URL each time. Instead you can leave your blog as it is without any redirects so that they see your diff. post each time as they login...

Common issues where custom domain is involved.

In BHF, one of the common issues we face is setting up custom domain. We already have a lot of information on how to setup a custom domain. So I am going to go ahead and write on the troubleshooting tips for custom domain.

This article is dedicated to +Chuck Croll  who has been/is a great mentor to me  since the beginning.

So let's start with the first and foremost golden rule of Custom domain troubleshooting.
Any issue where you have custom domains involved, first check if the custom domain is setup properly.

Blogger in Draft says "Try the new Blogger!"

It's been long time that I wrote something here. Interestingly there seems to be a new update in Blogger in Draft (https://draft.blogger.com).

Blogger HTTPS for custom domain and Cloudflare

In BHF, there was a recent issue related to cloudflare where the browser screams the site is a phishing site. So I thought of writing up how does a service like cloudflare affect your blogger blog.

What is Cloudflare?

Well we have that written all over Wikipedia. Let's go on with why Blogger users look for Cloudflare.
Anciently Blogger users used cloudflare for one simple reason. HTTPS for custom domains.

So what happens when you introduce cloudflare into your domain?
DNS Redirect.
Your custom domain will be configured with the proxy info provided by cloudflare and when the request is hit, DNS redirect happens.
DNS redirect is bad for the site's health. A number of reasons, but the most important is that some browsers, when it detects a DNS redirection, it thinks that it is a phishing site.

What is a DNS redirect?

I am trying to explain this in easy terms. I'll try not to be too technical. When a custom domain URL is hit, usually the domain requests go to Name servers from w…
